First of all, one of the things we recognize is there's a lot that", "start": 148.8, "stop": 152.02, "id": 32}, {"text": " people would like to do with the Macintosh today. They want to be able to empty the trash.", "start": 155.16, "stop": 157.54, "id": 34}, {"text": " They even want to be able to open an", "start": 157.96, "stop": 159.24, "id": 35}, {"text": " application and have that all happen simultaneously.", "start": 159.24, "stop": 160.94, "id": 36}, {"text": " So you're doing three things at once there. Right. And I also want to be able to", "start": 161.6, "stop": 165.12, "id": 37}, {"text": " switch between them and keep track of the progress.", "start": 165.12, "stop": 167.02, "id": 38}, {"text": " So we now have a whole new level of multitasking available in Copeland. One of the things about it that's great is you", "start": 185.02, "stop": 188.26, "id": 47}, {"text": " can look not just for the title of a document or what's contained there, but", "start": 188.26, "stop": 191.62, "id": 48}, {"text": " for what's inside the document itself.", "start": 191.62, "stop": 193.2, "id": 49}, {"text": " So in this case here, I'll search for the word seafood pasta. And I get a list", "start": 193.2, "stop": 196.94, "id": 50}, {"text": " very quickly of items here. These is a multitasking process. It's easy to use.", "start": 196.94, "stop": 200.7, "id": 51}, {"text": " And I can directly manipulate these items. I can", "start": 201.02, "stop": 203.0, "id": 52}, {"text": " treat this window like any other window.", "start": 203.0, "stop": 204.5, "id": 53}, {"text": " I can retype a name here in the list and it changes the name of the item on the", "start": 204.94, "stop": 208.46, "id": 54}, {"text": " desktop. The other thing we recognize is people do a lot of searching constantly", "start": 208.46, "stop": 212.56, "id": 55}, {"text": " on the same item. So we can save a find now.", "start": 212.56, "stop": 215.04, "id": 56}, {"text": " And the find actually is smart. It automatically updates when you add new", "start": 215.04, "stop": 219.44, "id": 57}, {"text": " information. So for example here, I would insert a floppy disk. The floppy disk", "start": 219.44, "stop": 224.14, "id": 58}, {"text": " has some content, which will show up in a second. And you'll see the list updates", "start": 224.14, "stop": 227.64, "id": 59}, {"text": " to include the new items that match the criteria.", "start": 227.64, "stop": 229.64, "id": 60}, {"text": " So much more intelligent finder.", "start": 230.06, "stop": 231.74, "id": 61}, {"text": " Exactly.", "start": 231.8, "stop": 232.16, "id": 62}, {"text": " Okay, what else do we have this new?", "start": 232.62, "stop": 233.62, "id": 63}, {"text": " The third area is really one that I'm really excited about. And some of them even share the same computer.", "start": 238.88, "stop": 241.06, "id": 66}, {"text": " So Culpand will give people the way to set up private kind of areas to work on", "start": 241.06, "stop": 245.08, "id": 67}, {"text": " the system that basically give information that's appropriate to each user's", "start": 245.08, "stop": 248.62, "id": 68}, {"text": " level of needs. So here I have a system that's button based. Very easy to use", "start": 248.62, "stop": 253.1, "id": 69}, {"text": " with a limited number of menu selections. This is a user who may be just getting", "start": 253.1, "stop": 256.96, "id": 70}, {"text": " started or doesn't need to know a lot about the data.", "start": 256.96, "stop": 258.58, "id": 71}, {"text": " Okay, so this is one particular user's profile.", "start": 258.58, "stop": 260.8, "id": 72}, {"text": " Exactly.", "start": 260.92, "stop": 261.2, "id": 73}, {"text": " And the interface is tailored to that person's level of knowledge.", "start": 261.34, "stop": 264.34, "id": 74}, {"text": " That's correct. I have a couple of other examples here. Here's one of more than", "start": 264.34, "stop": 267.9, "id": 75}, {"text": " intermediate user, who as you see has the traditional files and folders. And they", "start": 267.9, "stop": 271.92, "id": 76}, {"text": " have a couple of more menu selections here based on their", "start": 271.92, "stop": 274.72, "id": 77}, {"text": " own needs and requirements.", "start": 274.72, "stop": 276.32, "id": 78}, {"text": " For an advanced user, we even give the capability to put in a password to protect", "start": 277.18, "stop": 280.82, "id": 79}, {"text": " access. And then we have the full richness of the Macintosh experience available", "start": 280.82, "stop": 284.6, "id": 80}, {"text": " here. So you see, we've got the great selection of menu items that are available.", "start": 284.6, "stop": 289.16, "id": 81}, {"text": " And this is one way that people can customize their computer. A second way though", "start": 289.16, "stop": 293.48, "id": 82}, {"text": " is they can actually alter the appearance of the machine to better fit their own", "start": 293.48, "stop": 297.08, "id": 83}, {"text": " style and personality. It has begun to license the Mac OS and authorize the", "start": 351.56, "stop": 355.86, "id": 104}, {"text": " manufacture and sale of Macintosh clones.", "start": 355.86, "stop": 358.22, "id": 105}, {"text": " One of the first Mac clones comes from Radias. We found several of these new Mac", "start": 358.22, "stop": 362.8, "id": 106}, {"text": " compatibles being used at the CKS Partners ad agency in San Francisco.", "start": 362.8, "stop": 367.34, "id": 107}, {"text": " The CKS Group has been called a new generation integrated advertising agency. A", "start": 368.52, "stop": 373.44, "id": 108}, {"text": " sort of all purpose shop that uses multiple media to promote its clients.", "start": 373.44, "stop": 376.88, "id": 109}, {"text": " The high tech agency based in San Francisco and Silicon Valley produces ads for", "start": 377.66, "stop": 382.36, "id": 110}, {"text": " every kind of venue from paper to cyberspace.", "start": 382.36, "stop": 385.22, "id": 111}, {"text": " And since paper is still an important medium, CKS has been looking for ways to", "start": 385.22, "stop": 390.14, "id": 112}, {"text": " simplify the process of bringing an idea to print.", "start": 390.14, "stop": 393.04, "id": 113}, {"text": " One way to do that is to bring color proofing in house. go out and buy a Power 100, which looks to be a pretty good machine,", "start": 1051.04, "stop": 1054.66, "id": 304}, {"text": " probably less than I can buy a comparable Mac.", "start": 1054.78, "stop": 1056.4, "id": 305}, {"text": " It's good that they're finally doing it.", "start": 1056.94, "stop": 1058.52, "id": 306}, {"text": " It would have been better if they'd done this five years ago.", "start": 1058.66, "stop": 1060.94, "id": 307}, {"text": " They really gave Microsoft and the Windows a huge opportunity.", "start": 1061.22, "stop": 1064.34, "id": 308}, {"text": " However, it's never too late, as they say.", "start": 1064.96, "stop": 1067.62, "id": 309}, {"text": " I think what's going to happen is that there will be many other machines out", "start": 1067.76, "stop": 1071.28, "id": 310}, {"text": " there that are not Apple logoed, but instead these clones that will", "start": 1071.28, "stop": 1074.66, "id": 311}, {"text": " undercut Apple's pricing a little bit.", "start": 1074.66, "stop": 1076.3, "id": 312}, {"text": " Then there will be a group of people who are willing to go for those", "start": 1076.76, "stop": 1080.32, "id": 313}, {"text": " clones based on those kind of prices.", "start": 1080.32, "stop": 1081.88, "id": 314}, {"text": " From an Apple standpoint, they look at", "start": 1081.88, "stop": 1084.04, "id": 315}, {"text": " it as another way to expand their presence.", "start": 1084.04, "stop": 1085.62, "id": 316}, {"text": " They really will still have big numbers sold, but this expands it through the", "start": 1086.5800000000002, "stop": 1091.0, "id": 317}, {"text": " clones, and I think it's still important for them.", "start": 1091.0, "stop": 1092.72, "id": 318}, {"text": " So it's good for Apple, not bad that these other guys", "start": 1093.02, "stop": 1095.24, "id": 319}, {"text": " are going to be selling Mac lookalikes?", "start": 1095.24, "stop": 1096.78, "id": 320}, {"text": " No, they wouldn't have done the is a really significant product.", "start": 1107.78, "stop": 1110.16, "id": 327}, {"text": " For all of the people who actually own Macs, they're going to love Copeland.", "start": 1110.16, "stop": 1113.5, "id": 328}, {"text": " The multitasking, all of the new features", "start": 1113.94, "stop": 1115.68, "id": 329}, {"text": " are going to be really important to them.", "start": 1115.68, "stop": 1117.2, "id": 330}, {"text": " The fact that it's this late, though,", "start": 1117.78, "stop": 1119.08, "id": 331}, {"text": " I think, is going to be somewhat of a problem.", "start": 1119.1, "stop": 1120.68, "id": 332}, {"text": " And I think that had they been able to get this out six, seven months ago, they", "start": 1120.9, "stop": 1124.76, "id": 333}, {"text": " could have actually kept some of the people from", "start": 1124.76, "stop": 1126.5, "id": 334}, {"text": " jumping on the Windows 95 bandwagon.", "start": 1126.5, "stop": 1128.2, "id": 335}, {"text": " Coming out now in the middle of 1996 is going to be a more difficult situation", "start": 1128.76, "stop": 1132.06, "id": 336}, {"text": " for new users coming in, because they've been dealing with", "start": 1132.06, "stop": 1135.28, "id": 337}, {"text": " the PC hype for so long.", "start": 1135.28, "stop": 1137.4, "id": 338}, {"text": " What about the long-term future? Not even long-term, but", "start": 1137.9, "stop": 1140.24, "id": 339}, {"text": " short-term future for Apple on the Mac.", "start": 1140.24, "stop": 1141.82, "id": 340}, {"text": " They've got, what, 8, 10% of the world market right now.", "start": 1141.92, "stop": 1144.68, "id": 341}, {"text": " Are they going to get hurt by the Windows 95 stuff? Can they survive all this?", "start": 1145.0, "stop": 1149.4, "id": 342}, {"text": " Well, yeah, they'll be hurt by Windows 95 in the sense that they'll never have", "start": 1149.66, "stop": 1152.28, "id": 343}, {"text": " the opportunity to get the kind of numbers that Scully wanted.", "start": 1152.28, "stop": 1154.58, "id": 344}, {"text": " I remember Scully saying that I'd like to have 20% market share.", "start": 1154.72, "stop": 1157.82, "id": 345}, {"text": " At 8% to 9%, that's not great, but they still have a loyal following.", "start": 1158.26, "stop": 1162.28, "id": 346}, {"text": " They could still sell to that group.", "start": 1162.46, "stop": 1163.76, "id": 347}, {"text": " There's two areas, though, where we think Apple", "start": 1163.76, "stop": 1165.72, "id": 348}, {"text": " can still make some serious inroads.", "start": 1165.72, "stop": 1167.38, "id": 349}, {"text": " The home office and small business as one particular", "start": 1167.9, "stop": 1171.08, "id": 350}, {"text": " group, and then the actual consumer.", "start": 1171.08, "stop": 1172.82, "id": 351}, {"text": " There's a lot of people out there in the business who want solutions.", "start": 1173.78, "stop": 1176.12, "id": 352}, {"text": " They don't really care about Windows or Mac.
